Nick Mazzarella
Margaret R. Pardee Memorial Hospital
Hendersonville, North Carolina
My name is Nick Mazzarella. For the past thirteen years my wife Sharon and I have lived in Hendersonville, North Carolina, a beautiful four season region in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
I work as a real property appraiser with the County Assessor's Office. My one daughter is married to an Army Command Sergeant Major who recently returned from a year in Iraq.
They now live in Texas with their three sons. My youngest son, who recently got married, lives with his wife in Alabama. My older son lives in Hawaii and is currently working on the set of the hit TV series, "Lost." I've been a SELECT participant for a little over five years.
I am proud and happy to be taking part in a study that may, someday, help future generations be free of the dread of prostate cancer. Having been fortunate enough to be chosen as a NPAB member is a great honor and I enjoy the camaraderie with the other members.
I know that the NPAB will do much to assure the continued success of SELECT.

University of Tennessee
Knoxville, Tennessee
I am a member of the Episcopal Clergy and have been so for the past decade. I have retired often, but not very successfully: retired as the Interim Director of Healthcare Ministries for the Episcopal Church; full time hospital trauma/emergency room chaplain; college and university chief financial officer; and as an Army Reserve Medical Service Corps Colonel after four years active duty and twenty-six years of reserve service after Gulf War I.
I have three adult children: a daughter, a son, and a stepdaughter. I am grandfather to three teenage daughters by my school psychologist daughter and one newborn son by my computer jock, home repairer, and home inspector son.
My hobbies are: philately, tennis, golf, reading, music appreciation and boating. I am currently active in disaster planning and response after 9/11 and conducting Critical Incident Stress Management debriefings after first responder, law enforcement, and fire department responses to traumatic events.
I was Chaplain at Ground Zero for two months.
